Digital business profile or paper visiting card: which does your business need?

By ICI Creations ·

Most small businesses still keep a box of paper visiting cards. Most enquiries now begin on a phone. A digital business profile is built for that second moment, but it does not have to replace the first.

This guide explains what each one is good at, where a paper card runs out of room, and how to use both together. It is written for shop owners, cafés, salons, clinics, consultants and anyone who is asked “can you send me your details?” several times a week.

What is a digital business profile?

A digital business profile, sometimes called a digital visiting card, is a single web page about your business on its own link. It opens in any phone browser, with no app to install. At the top are buttons to call you, message you on WhatsApp, send an email and get directions. Below them you can show what you offer, your prices or menu, opening hours, photos of your work, reviews and answers to common questions.

Because it is a link, it can be sent on WhatsApp, added to your Instagram bio, placed in the website field of your Google Business Profile, or printed as a QR code on your counter, packaging or paper card.

What a paper visiting card still does well

  • It works face to face. Handing over a card at a counter, a meeting or an exhibition is quick and personal.
  • It is physical. A good card with nice paper and printing leaves an impression and sits on a desk as a reminder.
  • It needs no signal and no battery.

Where a paper card runs out

  • Space. There is room for a name, a number and an address, not your services, prices, hours or photos of your work.
  • Typing. The customer has to type your number by hand to call or save you, and a single wrong digit loses the enquiry.
  • Change. A new number, a new branch or new timings means a new print run, and the old cards keep circulating.
  • Sharing. When a customer wants to recommend you to a friend, a photo of a paper card is the best they can do.

Which one does your business need?

It depends on where your customers first meet you.

  • Customers mostly walk in (a sweet shop, a salon, a clinic): keep paper cards at the counter, and add a QR code that opens your profile so people can save you and see your prices or treatments later.
  • Customers mostly find you online or by word of mouth (a home bakery, a tutor, a freelancer): the profile does most of the work, because every enquiry ends with “send me your details”. Paper cards become optional.
  • You meet people at events and meetings (a consultant, an interior designer, a property advisor): use both. Hand over the card, and make sure the card carries the QR code so the conversation can continue on the phone.

The best answer is often both

Print a QR code that opens your profile on the back of your paper card. The paper card does the face-to-face job; the profile holds everything that does not fit and stays up to date. When your timings or prices change, you update the page and every card you have already handed out still points to the right details.

One caution: a printed QR code cannot be changed later, so the link behind it must stay the same for as long as the cards are in circulation. Choose a provider that keeps your link working, and print the code only once the link is final.

What to put on your profile

  1. Your name or business name, a clear photo or logo, and one line on what you do.
  2. Buttons to call, WhatsApp, email and get directions, plus Save Contact.
  3. Your main services or products, with prices if you are comfortable sharing them.
  4. Opening hours, and the days you are closed.
  5. Four to eight good photos of your work, shop or products.
  6. Two or three short answers to the questions customers ask most.
  7. Links to your Instagram, Google reviews or website, if you have them.

Keep it short. A profile is read on a phone, often in a hurry, so every section should earn its place.

We built several sample profiles to show how the format adapts to different businesses: a café with a menu and an offer, a gym with plans and a timetable, an interior studio with a portfolio, and more. You can open each one live from our digital business profile page. They use made-up businesses and dummy contact details.

At ICI Creations a Digital Business Profile costs ₹3,599, including design, the QR code and the first year of hosting, then ₹499 a year with small changes included. See the full price list, or message us on WhatsApp to ask which layout suits your business.
